Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi Dies in Plane Crash: Global Reactions

Ukraine and the Baltic states did not express condolences regarding the death of the President of Iran. In the USA, however, the response was mixed.

The news that the President of Iran, Ebrahim Raisi, and other officials had died has circled the globe. However, not everyone shares the sorrow over the loss of human life.

Latvia and Estonia did not react to the tragedy at all. The Lithuanian Foreign Minister refused to express condolences because he found it "awkward" due to the cooperation between Moscow and Tehran.

Ukraine also remained silent, as reported by the Iranian ambassador to Moscow, Kazem Jalali.

He also noted that Washington expressed condolences but in a "mixed" manner: "On one hand, they expressed condolences, on the other hand, they said, 'We have heard the voice of the Iranian people.' We understand that this is an incorrect and wrong approach."

Jalali stated that the Iranian people are mourning – that is their voice.

It is worth mentioning that the plane crash on May 19th resulted in the death of the President of Iran, Ebrahim Raisi, the Foreign Minister Hosein Amir Abdollahian, and other accompanying persons. They were returning from Azerbaijan after meeting with President Ilham Aliyev.

Russian President Vladimir Putin promptly sent a telegram of condolences.
