Impressive figures regarding public transport in Tallinn for the year 2023 have recently been released, showcasing over 650 thousand trips and a distance covered exceeding 36 million kilometers. Discover what attracts residents to this convenient and environmentally friendly mode of transportation.

Last year witnessed remarkable growth in public transport in Tallinn, with over 650 thousand trips undertaken, covering more than 36 million kilometers, and serving approximately 133 million passengers. These numbers have caught the attention of the public and raised important questions about the future of urban mobility.

In light of these recent achievements, Tallinna Linnatranspordi AS (TLT), the entity responsible for urban transportation, has analyzed the reasons behind this growth. One of the primary factors, according to experts, is the resurgence of residents opting for public transport as their primary means of mobility. This trend is not only attributed to the convenience and accessibility of free transportation but also to the increasing costs associated with private car ownership and parking issues, particularly in the city center.

Kaido Padar, a member of the TLT board, confirmed that the past year posed challenges for the enterprise. Construction works in the city center required constant adaptation of schedules and ensuring passenger information. However, thanks to the efforts of the team and the implementation of new route networks, public transport has become even more convenient and accessible.

"We see that public transport is becoming the preferred choice for city residents," noted Padar. "We are working to make our service even more environmentally friendly and convenient for passengers."

He further stated that this year, the enterprise will focus on improving the quality of service. As part of this initiative, the acquisition of new trams and electric buses is planned to complement the existing fleet of buses and trolleybuses.

Looking at the figures for 2023, an impressive increase in the number of trips and serviced passengers is evident. Buses emerged as the most popular mode of transportation, with over 2.5 million trips and servicing approximately 103 million passengers. Trolleybuses and trams also demonstrated positive results, serving millions of passengers each year.

Social transport also plays a crucial role in providing mobility for unique clientele, with its significance in urban infrastructure becoming increasingly evident.

Continuing efforts to develop public transport promise further growth and service enhancements for the residents of Tallinn. Coupled with the advancement of new technologies and environmental initiatives, the city can expect an even more comfortable and sustainable transportation future.
